This photocell is the optical sensor that monitors seed flow through the seed tube on a grain drill. It sits in the seed tube housing, where its emitter and receiver detect the passage of individual seeds during operation. A blocked or failed photocell produces no signal, causing the cab monitor to show a continuous blockage alarm even when seed flow is normal. This component is manufactured to the original optical alignment and sensitivity specifications, so it triggers the monitor at the same seed-size threshold as the factory-installed unit. When replacing, ensure the sensor window is clean and that the connector seats fully to maintain a weathertight seal.
