This axle serves as the pivot point for the metering mechanism in the seed drill. It connects the drive components to the seed metering rollers, allowing them to rotate and deliver seed at the correct rate. Wear on the axle surface or its bearing journals causes play in the metering assembly, leading to inconsistent seed spacing. As an original component, it is machined to the same tolerance as the housing bore, so no shimming or bushing adaptation is required during replacement.
