It sits between the rotating shaft and the stationary housing, forming a static seal at the outer diameter and a dynamic lip seal at the inner bore. A worn or hardened seal allows grease leakage and dirt ingress, which accelerates bearing wear and can lead to spindle damage. The ring is manufactured to match the original housing bore geometry and shaft surface finish, so no shimming or adapter is required during installation. On reinstall, clean the bore and shaft contact surfaces, and seat the ring squarely to avoid distortion.
