A degraded or hardened O-ring allows brake fluid to weep past the seal, which reduces braking pressure and can lead to a spongy pedal feel. The manufacturer machines this seal to the same cross-section and inner diameter as the original part, so it seats fully in the groove without requiring shimming or adapters. On reinstallation, ensure the sealing surfaces are clean and dry before fitting the ring.
