This gearbox O-ring seals the interface between the gearbox housing and its cover or shaft, preventing lubricant leakage and keeping contaminants out of the transmission. It sits in a machined groove on the mating face, where it compresses to form a static seal. A degraded or hardened O-ring allows oil to weep past the seal face, which can lead to low lubricant levels and eventual gear or bearing damage. This original part is molded to the same cross-section and durometer as the factory seal, so it seats correctly in the groove without requiring additional sealant. On installation, ensure the groove is clean and dry, and lubricate the O-ring lightly with gearbox oil before fitting.
