Wear on the fork’s contact pads or bending of the yoke leads to incomplete gear engagement, causing grinding or pop-out under load. The manufacturer machines the fork to match the original shift-rail spacing and pad thickness, so the engagement travel remains within the transmission’s designed tolerance. On reinstall, verify the fork moves freely on the rail before closing the gearbox.
