Wear in this joint produces driveline vibration and a knocking sound during tight turns or under load. The manufacturer machines the bearing surfaces to the same tolerance as the original assembly, so the joint maintains the correct preload without additional shimming. On reinstall, clean the spline bore and apply thread-locking compound to the retaining fasteners.
