This ball joint connects the steering linkage to the axle assembly, allowing angular movement between the tie rod and the steering knuckle. It is installed on both the front and rear axles of the host tractor. Wear in the ball joint produces free play in the steering system, which leads to imprecise wheel alignment and uneven tire wear. The original manufacturer machines the ball stud and socket to the same clearance as the factory assembly, so no shimming or adapter is needed during replacement. On installation, tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque and secure it with a new cotter pin.
