This ring is the overload clutch component for the straw-walker drive on a harvesting machine. It transmits torque from the drive shaft to the walker mechanism, and its calibrated friction surfaces slip when a jam or overload occurs, protecting the gearbox and crank assembly from shock damage. When the friction faces wear, the clutch slips at a lower-than-specified torque, causing intermittent walker speed and uneven material flow across the cleaning shoe. The ring is machined to the original spring-rate and surface-finish specifications so the clutch engages and disengages at the correct load threshold. On reinstallation, inspect the mating friction disc for glazing and replace it if necessary.
