This tensioner pulley maintains the correct tension on the timing belt or chain within the engine's timing case. It is mounted on a pivot arm and presses against the belt to prevent slack that could cause timing drift. A seized or worn pulley bearing produces a chirping or grinding noise from the front of the engine and can allow the belt to jump teeth, leading to valve-to-piston contact. The pulley is manufactured to the same bore and flange dimensions as the original assembly, so it seats correctly on the existing tensioner arm without requiring shims or adapters. When replacing, inspect the tensioner arm and pivot bolt for wear, and torque the mounting bolt to the specification for the host engine.
