This gear drives the straw-walker elevator shaft on the left side of the cleaning unit. It meshes with the mating gear on the adjacent shaft to synchronize the walker motion. A worn gear produces irregular walker timing, which reduces separation efficiency and can overload the drive chain. The manufacturer machines the bore and tooth profile to match the original shaft fit, so no bushing or shimming is required during installation. It is recommended to replace the retaining key at the same time as the gear.
