This knife is the stripper blade for the corn header, mounted on the gathering chain assembly. It severs the stalk from the root system at the base of the row unit, allowing the stalk to be pulled into the intake rollers. A dull or bent blade leaves uncut stubs that plug the gathering chain and cause material to bunch at the header auger. The blade is manufactured to the original hole spacing and thickness so it bolts directly to the mounting plate without shimming. On reinstall, use new fasteners and torque the bolts to spec.
