This left-side outer gatherer finger mounts on the outer end of the seed drill's gathering reel. It sweeps crop material inward from the edge of the swath toward the intake auger, ensuring a consistent feed width into the machine. The finger is formed from a drawn steel rod with a fixed cross-section along its length; the bend at the mounting end aligns it with the reel arm. A worn or bent finger reduces gathering width, leaving crop on the ground and causing uneven feeding. The finger matches the original assembly's bend geometry and mounting-hole location, so no adjustment is needed during installation.
