This clutch pressure plate transmits engine torque through the drivetrain by clamping the driven disc against the flywheel. It sits inside the bell housing between the flywheel and the release mechanism. Wear on the friction surface or a loss of spring tension causes clutch slip under load and incomplete disengagement when the pedal is depressed. The manufacturer machines the pressure plate to match the original spring rate and contact geometry, which preserves the engagement timing that the transmission control system expects. On reinstall, replace the pilot bearing and align the disc with a centering tool before torquing the pressure plate bolts in a cross pattern.
