This steering rod connects the steering gear output to the front-axle steering arm, converting rotational input into the lateral movement that turns the wheels. It is the primary mechanical link between the steering box and the wheel knuckle assembly. Wear in the rod-end joints or bending of the shaft introduces free play, causing a wandering steering feel and uneven tire wear. The manufacturer machines the rod to the same length and thread geometry as the original assembly, so no shimming or adapter bushings are required for installation. On reinstall, tighten the locknuts to the specified torque and check the joint for free movement before operation.
