This driveshaft transmits torque from the combine's gearbox to the header auger and cutterbar drive. It is the primary mechanical link between the feeder housing and the header assembly; the splined ends engage with matching couplers at both the machine side and the header input. A worn or bent shaft causes vibration that accelerates bearing and seal wear in the driven components. The manufacturer machines the spline profiles to the same tolerances as the original assembly, so the shaft slides into the couplers without binding and maintains concentric rotation. On installation, ensure the shaft is fully seated in both couplers and that the retaining pins or bolts are torqued to specification.
