It is installed in the filter housing on the return side of the circuit, protecting downstream components such as valves and actuators from abrasive wear. A clogged element forces the system's bypass valve open, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate and accelerating internal component wear. The filter is constructed to match the original housing's seal geometry, ensuring proper bypass-valve seating and preventing unfiltered oil from bypassing the element. Replace the housing seal during installation and tighten the cap to the specified torque.
