This air filter element sits in the engine intake system, trapping airborne particulate before it reaches the combustion chamber. It is a safety element, meaning it is installed downstream of the main air cleaner as a secondary barrier. If the primary filter fails or is improperly seated, this element prevents debris from entering the engine intake manifold, protecting the turbocharger and cylinders from abrasive wear. The filter media is pleated to maximize surface area within the housing. A clogged safety element restricts airflow, causing a drop in engine power and increased fuel consumption. Because it is an original-manufacturer component, the housing seal geometry matches the intake duct flange, ensuring no unfiltered air bypasses the element. On reinstall, verify the element is fully seated and that the housing cover latches securely.
