This engine safety air filter is a secondary-stage element that protects the engine in the event of a primary filter breach. It is positioned downstream of the main air cleaner, inside the filter housing mounted on the engine. If the primary filter fails or is bypassed, this safety element captures the remaining particulate before air enters the intake manifold. A clogged safety filter restricts airflow, causing a drop in engine power and increased fuel consumption. The manufacturer machines the sealing surfaces to match the housing groove, ensuring the filter seats correctly and maintains the intended bypass threshold. When replacing the primary element, inspect this safety filter and replace it if any debris is visible on the clean side.
