This seed disc meters individual corn kernels from the seed hopper into the furrow opened by the coulter. It rotates on the metering hub, and the 24 holes in its face pick up single seeds from the seed pool under vacuum or positive pressure, then release them at the drop point. A worn disc causes skips or doubles in the seed spacing, which reduces plant stand uniformity. The disc is machined to match the original housing geometry so the seal between the disc face and the seed plate is maintained, preventing air loss that would disrupt singulation.
