This eccentric drives the oscillating motion of the cutterbar on the header. It converts rotary input from the drive shaft into the reciprocating stroke that moves the knife section. Wear on the eccentric bore or the bearing surface introduces play, which reduces stroke length and causes uneven cutting or vibration. The manufacturer machines the eccentric to match the original geometry, so the stroke amplitude and timing remain correct for the knife-drive linkage.
