A degraded O-ring causes external oil seepage and a gradual pressure drop, which can lead to slipping or delayed shifts. The part is molded to the original cross-section and durometer, matching the seal groove geometry so that the cover compresses it to the correct squeeze without over-stressing the material. On reinstallation, clean the groove thoroughly and lubricate the O-ring with transmission fluid before seating the cover.
