A clogged element forces the system's bypass valve open, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate, which accelerates internal component wear and can cause erratic implement response. As an original-manufacturer component, the filter media and bypass-valve cracking pressure are matched to the housing's design specifications, ensuring the bypass valve opens only when the element is fully loaded. During replacement, clean the housing sealing surfaces and install a new O-ring or gasket before tightening the housing cap to the specified torque.
