This shaft transmits torque from the engine output to the gearset within the transmission housing. It is the rotating component that carries drive from the input side to the countershaft or layshaft, enabling the selection of forward and reverse speeds. A worn or twisted shaft produces gear noise, difficult engagement, or complete loss of drive in one or more ranges. As an original-manufacturer component, the shaft is machined to the same spline profile and journal diameters as the assembly it replaces, so no bushing or shim adjustments are needed during installation.
