This engine heater raises the temperature of the engine coolant to aid cold-starting. It is installed in the engine block or a coolant hose, where it heats the coolant before the engine is cranked. A failed heater results in extended cranking times and increased starter-motor wear during cold weather. The original component is manufactured to the same resistance and wattage specification as the factory-installed unit, so it delivers the same heat output without overloading the electrical circuit.
