This friction disc transfers torque between gearbox shafts through controlled friction engagement. It sits in the clutch pack of the transmission, where it is alternately compressed and released to select gear ratios. Wear on the friction material reduces clamping force, leading to gear slip and delayed engagement. The disc is manufactured to the original thickness and surface finish, which the clutch pack relies on for consistent engagement timing. On reinstall, inspect the mating steel plates for scoring and replace if damaged.
