This nut secures the attack shaft within the differential or gearbox of the host tractor. It is torqued to hold the shaft in its axial position, preventing end-play that would lead to gear misalignment and premature bearing wear. A loose or improperly torqued nut allows the shaft to shift under load, producing a knocking sound and eventually damaging the gear teeth. This original component is machined to the same thread profile and seating face geometry as the factory assembly, so it maintains the correct preload on the shaft without additional shimming. On reinstallation, clean the threads and apply the specified torque value.
