This shock absorber damps torsional vibration in the drivetrain of the host tractor. It is installed between the engine flywheel and the transmission input shaft, where it absorbs the cyclic torque spikes generated by the power stroke of each cylinder. Without this damping, the gear teeth in the transmission and final drive would experience accelerated fatigue wear. The component uses a set of elastomeric elements bonded between the driven and driving hubs to convert vibration energy into heat. Over time, the elastomer hardens or cracks, leading to increased gear rattle and harshness during load changes. Replacing the unit restores the original damping rate that the drivetrain was designed to tolerate. When installing, ensure the splined hub aligns freely with the input shaft before tightening the mounting bolts.
