This ball bearing supports the fan-drive shaft, maintaining alignment between the pulley and the fan hub. It sits in the bearing housing on the engine front cover, where it carries the radial load from the belt-driven fan assembly. A worn bearing produces a rumbling noise and allows shaft wobble, which can lead to belt slip and reduced cooling airflow. The bearing is manufactured to the same internal clearance and race geometry as the original assembly, so it fits the housing bore without shimming. On installation, press the bearing onto the shaft using the inner race only to avoid brinelling the raceway.
