This intermediate wheel base supports the idler pulley that maintains belt tension in the chopper drive system. It positions the idler wheel between the drive pulley and the cutter drum, ensuring the belt stays engaged under varying load conditions. A worn base allows the idler to shift, causing belt slip and reduced chopping efficiency. The original casting matches the mounting geometry of the housing so the pivot axis remains aligned with the belt path. When replacing, transfer the bearing and pulley assembly to the new base and torque the mounting bolts to specification.
