This engine oil filter removes particulate from the lubricating oil circuit before it reaches the main bearing journals and the turbocharger supply. It mounts on the engine block and receives oil from the pump; the filter media traps wear metals and combustion soot that would otherwise accelerate bearing and ring wear. A restricted filter forces the bypass valve open, sending unfiltered oil into the gallery, which increases the risk of scored crank journals. The manufacturer machines the baseplate to match the housing’s seal groove, ensuring the bypass valve seats correctly at the designed cracking pressure. On reinstallation, lightly oil the gasket face and tighten the housing to the torque specified for the engine.
