This sharpening stone is the wear component in the stone-sharpening apparatus of a self-propelled forage harvester. It contacts the stationary cutting knife to restore the blade edge during operation. As the stone wears, the cutting quality of the chopping drum degrades, increasing the load on the engine and producing a ragged crop cut. The stone is mounted in the sharpening mechanism that advances it incrementally against the knife face.
