The bearing's self-aligning design compensates for minor shaft misalignment that occurs as the straw walker frame flexes under load. A worn or seized bearing causes increased vibration in the walker assembly and can lead to shaft scoring or housing cracking. The manufacturer machines the bearing race and housing bore to the same tolerances as the original assembly, so no shimming is required during installation. When replacing, torque the housing mounting bolts to specification and verify the clamping ring is fully seated.
