This right-hand chisel is reinforced with a carbide insert on its leading edge, which is the wear surface that fractures and loosens soil during primary tillage. It mounts to the shank of the plow or cultivator, where it takes the initial impact against the soil profile; the carbide insert slows the rate of edge blunting compared to a plain steel chisel. A worn chisel increases draft force and leaves an uneven furrow bottom because the tip geometry no longer matches the original breakout angle. The manufacturer machines the steel body to the same shank-mounting dimensions as the original assembly, so no modification to the clamp or bolt pattern is needed during replacement.
