This front axle ball joint connects the steering knuckle to the axle beam, allowing the wheel hub to pivot for steering while transmitting vertical and lateral loads from the wheel to the suspension. It is mounted in the front axle assembly of the host tractor. The joint consists of a stud with a spherical bearing surface housed inside a socket; the stud rotates and articulates within the socket as the steering geometry changes. Wear in the ball joint produces free play in the steering, which causes imprecise wheel tracking and uneven tire wear. The manufacturer machines the spherical bearing surface and the socket bore to the same clearances as the original assembly, so no shimming or adjustment is needed during installation. On reinstall, tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque and secure it with a new cotter pin.
